Dear Post #39 Veteran,
Thank you again for supporting our American Legion Post 39. Over the last 12 months our post continued its active mission supporting veterans, veteran's organizations and our community.
During the last 12 months we have made over $6,000 in donations to veteran's organizations like the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Stand Down, The Disabled Veterans Foundation and Semper Fido (a local organization that provides service dogs to aid the mental and physical rehabilitation of wounded veterans). The post held a Christmas luncheon for over 80 homeless veterans at Veterans Haven South and provide gifts of needed clothing.
In the community we placed flags and markers on veteran's burial sites in Florence Township cemeteries and at veteran memorial sites. On Memorial Day we held services with the playing of "TAPS" at all the same cemeteries and memorial sites.
The post held and participated in Veterans Day events in both Florence and at Homestead in Mansfield Township. In Mansfield Township we were part of a wreath placing ceremony at a veteran's memorial site. On Patriot Day in Florence Township, post 39 was involved in both the flag raising and parade. The post placed flags lining the center islands in Homestead at Mansfield to honor our countries 250-year anniversary.
In June of this year our post (thanks to some outstanding work by our Vice Commander William Weisgarber) was able to send 4 of our Florence High School students to Boys State.
In July we held a special birthday luncheon and party for past commander Steve Anderson's 100 birthday. Steve has been a legion member for over 80 years.
Yes, our American Legion Post 39, thanks to your support, continues on its mission and will do so into the future. Please take the time to visit our web page with a contact phone number and updated photos of events at https//www.njlegionpost39.org.
